Uganda has 10 national parks, numerous reserves, and a dazzling array of landscapes, which range from dry savannas to dense forests and snowcapped mountains. The 10 national parks include Queen Elizabeth, Lake Mburo, Murchison Falls, Kidepo Valley, Kibale, Mount Elgon, Rwenzori Mountains, Semuliki, Mgahinga Gorilla, and Bwindi Impenetrable National Parks.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site know for its stunning biodiversity and dense, ancient rainforest. Bwindi is home to over half the world's remaining population of endangered mountain gorillas and is one of only four places in the world to see endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.
Kibale National Park is home to one of the greatest variety and concentration of primates on the continent, The park is most famous for its large population of chimpanzees, and is home to 12 other primate species. Beyond primates, Kibale hosts an array of other wildlife, including forest elephants, bushbucks, and over 375 bird species. The park's dense rainforest, interspersed with patches of grassland and swamp, provides a lush, biodiverse environment that supports a wide variety of flora and fauna.
Queen Elizabeth National Park, located between Kibale and Bwindi, offers a variety of landscapes, from Savannah and wetlands to volcanic craters and tropical forests. The park is renowned for its incredible wildlife, including large population of elephants, buffalo, hippos, and crocodiles. It's also home to the famous tree climbing lions. The park has over 600 bird species, making it one of the most diverse birding locational globally.
Murchison Falls National Park is the country's largest and oldest national park. It named after the spectacular Murchison Falls, where the Nile River narrows and crashed through a 7-meter-wider gorge, creating one of the most powerful waterfalls in the world. The park's diverse landscape includes savannah, riverine forest, and woodlands, crating habitats for a wide range of wildlife.
